Almaty to Host Exhibition and Conference on Water and Water Technologies for Central Asia

With the advent of a new millennium, scientists and sociologists resumed endeavours to enhance access to potable water for population, especially in developing countries. According to estimates, by 2050 one third of the humanity will face dire lack of water

The problem is addressed by various international congresses and exhibitions. The main objective of these events is to combine efforts and attract close attention of government agencies, commercial structures, and scientific circles to the preservation and rational use of water, the most precious resource on Earth, the reserves of which are getting exhausted.

For the first time ever, Almaty will be hosting WaterTech Central Asia 2008, an international Central Asian forum on water and water technologies. The event is organised by two exhibition companies, Kenes International of Israel and Iteca of Kazakhstan. The conference will be attended by heads of relevant ministries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. A report will be made by the Minister of National Infrastructures of the State of Israel. Along with the discussion of pressing issues and adoption of necessary decisions concerning future water supply in Central Asia, the tasks of the forum will also include exchange of experience and promotion of cutting-edge environment-friendly technologies and developments in the sphere of industrial and municipal water services.

The WaterTech Central Asia 2008 exposition will be accommodated in the Atakent International Exhibition Centre pavilion during three days, on 16-18 September. The exhibition will feature 40 exhibiting companies from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Poland, and Russia.

The conference will take place on 16 September at the Bakshasarai Reception House and will bring together about 100 delegates. The event will be co-chaired by Anatoly Ryabtsev, Chairman of the Committee for Water Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Professor Uri Shani, Water Commissioner of the Ministry of National Infrastructures of the State of Israel. One of the Forum's keynote addresses will be the speech of Mr. Binyamin Ben Eliezer, Minister of National Infrastructures of the State of Israel. The main subjects to be discussed at the conference include: The Impact of Climate Change on Global Ecology and Water Resources; Integrated Water Resources Management; Water Recycling; Water Saving Technologies, Water Metering Systems, and Water Metering in Irrigation Systems; Water Technologies and Financial Aspects; Reclamation Facilities to Construct, Reconstruct and Operate Irrigation Systems.

A business programme of various workshops and presentations is envisaged for the exhibition as well. Thus, the exhibition will feature the workshop Training in the Sphere of Integrated Water Resources Management to be held on 16 September by the Centre for Promotion of Sustainable Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan LLP.

The importance of the event is emphasised by the holding of a regular session of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia (ICWC) in Almaty within the framework of WaterTech Central Asia 2008. The session delegates will take part in the conference and get familiarised with the WaterTech Central Asia exposition.

The high level and the international significance of the WaterTech Central Asia 2008 Exhibition and Conference is boosted by the official support from the ICWC, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Environment Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Committee for Water Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty City Akimat, UNDP Kazakhstan, Central Asia Regional Environmental Centre (CAREC), together with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour of Israel, Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.
